Kew Boiler Service, Radiator & Pipe thermostat Installation The clients were refurbishing and the Central Heating had been off for sometime. They had two nice new radiators to install downstairs and were keeping the upstairs radiators as before. The problem with getting a dried out Central Heating system working is that any deposits would have hardened. No surprise here, but for a small cottage it took 3 hours to refill the system when it should have only taken 30 minutes maximum! The radiators went on nicely and I then filled the system. I could only service the boiler once the Central Heating system was filled and pressurised. Before I filled the system I had to check that the boilers expansion vessel was charged and it wasn’t, so that was charged as per the manufacturers instructions. The rest of the boilers service went well and as the pressure readings were within acceptable limits, I didn’t need to get into the main heat exchanger. The next issue was that the frost thermostat was being activated due to the cold weather as the boiler was located in the old outside loo. This was overriding the internal heating controls and meant that the boiler was on all of the time, wasting Gas. So I had to install a pipe thermostat to interrupt the Frost thermostat and switch the boiler off.
