Landlords Gas Safety Inspection Brentford These inspections are law and have are not allowed to lapse 12 months from the last inspection. This visit was interesting as there was no Emergency shut off valve within the flat. The flat was only built 10 years ago. This is what happens when developers are self certifying their projects, Gas safety regulations are not followed, but they (developers) are allowed to get away with it. This block of flats has a concierge who has the only key to the Meter room, who goes home at 7pm. The Meter room in this case houses the Emergency shut off valve! The other interesting find was that the Gas Hob has no Gas safety features to cut the Gas off in the event of the flame going out! How would you turn the Gas off after 7pm in case of an emergency? You cant! The only option is for the tenant to contact the Gas Board who will try to be on site within two hours…. That is a lot of Gas Escape in two hours! Once I have access to the Meter room I will be able to finish off my Gas Safety inspection with these advisories.
Always know what to do incase of an emergency! Know where your Shut off valve is and if you cant contact a Gas Safe Engineer, the emergency services number is 0800 111 999. Be Gas aware and safe!
