Boiler Installation Worcester Bosch Sheen The client previously had a heat only, not a combination boiler, boiler which had been deemed ‘Immediately Dangerous’ by a previous Gas Safe Registered Engineer. This was due to the Engineer finding a rust hole in the back of this boiler. Now as this boiler (Potterton Netaheat 24kw) has a positive pressure fan, the case must be sound, no gaps in the casing whatsoever. This rust hole that he found would cause CO and CO2 to be pumped into the room, so he followed the correct course of action in shutting it down. As this boiler was now very old, there was no way of fixing it cost effectively. The client had heard good things from various Gas Safe Engineers, so I supplied them with that make. The old boiler, required the Central Heating system to be drained down before I could attempt to remove the unit. Due to the slow boiler leak, which caused the rust to form, all of the bolts were rusted closed! Knowing that this boiler has a Cast Iron heat exchanger, I knew it would be heavy (it actually turned out to be very heavy). I had to dismantle the boiler bit by bit in order to remove it which took a long time, most of the first day in fact! Once the boiler was off the wall and the old flue removed. The new boiler was mounted and flue hole reshaped to accommodate the new flue. A new gas connection and flow and return pipes were installed and the addition of a filter to protect the new boiler unit. I also added a cleaner and my flushing kit was attached to the Central Heating system to catch any Magnatite. No leaks on this one I happy to report and after a few days I returned to flush the cleaner out of the Central heating system, removed my flushing kit and added inhibitor. I did have issues with the electrics which slowed me down, but around 4 days including commission.
