Radiator Installation, St Margaret's

Radiator Installation, St Margaret’s If you have very old radiators in your property which have hardly been serviced, they are likely to be full of Magnatite and quite inefficient. They could be Power flushed and a filter added to the Central heating return of the boiler. In this case the radiators were rusting on the outside too, so had to be replaced. This property had Lath and Plaster walls which always present a challenge to hanging radiators. I did have to try a couple of different fittings before using the ones shown in the supporting photos. Due to the age difference between the old radiators and the new ones, like-for-like replacements were not possible and the floor boards had to come up so as to readjust the pipework. Due to the various airlocks in the Central Heating system, draining the system down took a long time. The pipes need to be dry in order to solder and this is where a lot of the installation time is spent. Once I had all the radiators in, it was time to fill and test the joints. A couple of leaks set me back but was so pleased to have my trusty wet vacuum to stop the neighbours ceiling getting soaked! As you will see the black Magnatite water is from the Central Heating system, which any boiler needs to be protected from. Once the leak was repaired the system was filled again and tested, with no leaks this time!!
